Marine Surveys - Damage Survey

Damage Survey

Damage Surveys are obviously carried out after a yacht has been damaged. The aim of the Damage Survey is to identify the full extent of the damage, give recommendations and options for repair and a guide as to the costs of the repair. The Damage Survey does not involve inspection of areas of the yacht that are not damaged.

Damage Surveys can be carried out for the private yacht owner or managing agent, but most of the Damage Surveys I carry out are for insurance companies after a yacht owner has made an insurance claim. In these cases I do not assess who is at fault but just report to the insurance company the facts of the incident, damage, repair options and costs.

Sometimes Damage Surveys are required to be carried out at short notice to prevent further damage to the yacht, so these surveys are generally charged on an hourly basis rather than on a quotation.

After the Damage Survey has been completed part of the surveyor’s job could be to oversee and report on the repair process.

Testimonials

“We commissioned Mr Rowles to carry out a full condition (pre purchase) survey on a 26 year old HR352. In his response to our initial inquiry Mr Rowles was precise in what the survey would cover, what he would charge, and when the survey and if required the sea trial could be carried out. The execution of the survey was thorough, well organised, and meticulously carried out.”Christopher and Annabel Moir
